Yes, we encourage Owners to create equipment bundles or packages that they believe will appeal to Hirers. If you have a lot of equipment, contact us and we can help you list your equipment!
The prices are up to you. We strongly recommend you compare prices to online competitors. Remember you must provide a reason for Hirers to rent from you rather then from elsewhere, so you will need to keep your prices competitive. If you want us to suggest a competitive price, contact us and we will certainly help you.
Listing equipment is completely free. We will happily help you list your equipment with high quality photos and detailed descriptions as well as competitive pricing. A 15% commission is charged when you actually rent out your equipment to others. This covers the cost of running the marketplace and credit card processing.
Sometimes you may need to take your listing off of our market. This is easy to do! Simply navigate to your profile, select the listing you want to remove and select “Close listing.” This will then remove the listing from our marketplace so that others cannot rent it, however it will save it as a closed listing which you can always reopen at any time.
Yes, you can access the 'availability' tool at any time and select dates when your equipment is available / unavailable. The search function will then only show equipment available on those dates and will ignore equipment marked as unavailable on those dates. This allows you to manage your equipment on a daily basis around your existing workload.
Also, if your listing has an active rental currently or in the future, the calendar tool automatically displays those dates as unavailable.
You can always close a listing and reopen it by simply selecting “close listing” and the “open listing” which is located underneath the price on the listing page. By closing a listing, you are taking it off of the market so it is unable to be rented. Or if someone requests gear, you can simply tell them its not available. We don't penalize you for rejecting requests...but we do for not answering fast enough, so try to answer as quickly as you can.
If you receive a request and the dates don’t work for you, you have the option to select different dates and send the Hirer a suggestion on different dates using the Shareplant messaging system. You can also simply message them and explain your conflict - but only before you accept a rental reservation request. Once a request has been accepted, you must cancel the order in order to change the date.
As of now we don’t offer the option to adjust prices once a rental has been requested or once it has been confirmed. We understand that flexibility is an integral part of this industry. You can extend a rental by booking a new rental transaction. If prices or rentals change outside the SharePlant system, it may void your insurance and potentially lead to your account being suspended.
It is up to you whether or not you wish to accept a rental reservation request. It’s your equipment and you can rent it out whenever you want. We just ask that you promptly deny rental requests if you don’t want to accept them so the Hirer can look for other options.
Be sure to prepare your equipment and have it ready before you meet the Hirer. This means it should be serviced, cleaned and double checked to make sure all items are accounted for and in good working order. Allow yourself enough time to assist the Hirer, if necessary, as they check your equipment and familiarise themselves with it.
Stay in communication with your Hirer.
Be on time.
Once you have accepted the rental reservation request, you can exchange contact details via the Shareplant messaging system. However, we still encourage you to continue to communicate on our messaging system in order to have an ongoing record or correspondence. This will also help us solve any potential problems with the rental if they should arise.
Since you will have the Hirers phone number feel free to contact them. If the other party does not show up at all or does not communicate with you, then cancel the transaction and contact us so we can investigate.
Feel free to set your own meeting place to exchange equipment. This could be at either the Owner or Hirers premises or at a construction site. If you’re not comfortable meeting at one of your premises, we recommend public places such as car parks, etc.
Yes, you should always ask to check a Hirer’s government-issued drivers licence or passport in order to ensure that you are meeting with the right person. If you fail to do so, we cannot guarantee any aid in the case of damage, fraud or theft.
If you notice damage after the rental, take a photo, specifically describe any damage, email the damage description and attached photos to email@example.com. Then, you must inform the insurance company if applicable.
Light scratches, scuffs, or normal amounts of dirt that can be cleaned easily are usually considered normal wear and tear and not covered by insurance. If you notice some minor damage after the return that is not normal wear and tear, you should take photos and email them to Shareplant immediately. Next, contact your Hirer, notify them of the situation and try to resolve the issue.
Report a late return as soon as possible to our team at firstname.lastname@example.org
To maintain SharePlant as a trusted and transparent community, every member is strongly encouraged to leave a review for the other member after every transaction. Once a transaction has been completed and the equipment has been returned, you will be notified to leave a review. Additionally, with your review, you can leave a “thumbs up” or a “thumbs down” to accurately portray how your experience was with that member. SharePlant will provide a percentage of positive versus negative reviews in each profile as well as display past reviews and their ratings. If a member does not uphold a reasonable review history deemed by the SharePlant team, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate the membership.
Once your equipment is returned and you have completed the check out process, you should choose the “mark as complete” option inside the messaging system. Once you have completed this step, your rental proceeds (rental charge less Shareplant fee) will be deposited directly into your bank account within 2-3 business days.
Generally, income earned by renting out your equipment is taxable. There may be deductions you might be able to take against this income, i.e, some vehicle expenses, depreciation, etc. Please consult your tax consultant to determine tax treatment for your rental activities and retain all relevant documentation. This statement is provided for information purposes only and is not intended to constitute tax or any other financial advice.
